EFFECTIVE TEACHING REFLECTION

REFLECTION

Day 1 Sunday 10th of September 2023

In our groups we discussed the definition of Learning and we compared the three definitions that we wrote.

The impactful goal that I found in this lesson was that as teachers we need to think about the definition of Learning in our schools and what evidence can we use to measure if learning is happening in the class  how can we provide more opportunities for learning.

If the school does not have a clear vision and mission, we should advocate for that to be clear to all other teachers in the school.

I liked the clock partner activity, that pushed everyone to interact with new people

Day 2 Monday 11th of September 2023

The information discussed today was of high importance especially discussing the Collective Efficacy and its five conditions.
Out of the five conditions for a Collective Efficacy I agreed on Open communication as the most important factor that can lead to Collective Efficacy in schools.
Open communication includes transparency in decision making, sharing ideas and resources, brainstorming solutions and giving constructive feedback to other educators.

During the activity about Educational Belief Systems I was a Social Re constructionist this is because
I am aware of how important the emotional and social well-being of the student is.

One of the main goals of teaching is helping people become a better version of themselves.
I believe in equality and cooperative learning which can make the world a better place.

Day 3 Tuesday 12th of September 2023

In the circle talk activity each person shared their ideas about the most turning and Learning point they had.
I think it was a good way to understand what is important for me as an educator and what actions would have a positive impact on students' lives by recalling past experiences.
I think the most important characteristics of an effective teacher are:
Talent, Empathy, Adaptability, Communication and High Expectations.

Question to ask about the teachers

Is there learning happening in their classroom?

Are they willing to self reflect? Am i aware of my weaknesses?set goals?

Is there desire or ability to make change? growth?

Day 4 Wednesday 13th of September 2023

The saying that had a great impact from today's lesson is that" Leadership requires courage and clarity".

I believe this quote is very true because when we get courage from clarity that gives us confidence. This confidence shows when we name things and acknowledge where you we might be failing.
After discussing "What is Fair?" I understand that educators should be aware of the cost of the decisions, be reflective because they might exclude some groups. The ultimate goal of an educator is to maximize growth in every child.
Enduring Understanding is a statement that summarizes important ideas and have lasting value beyond the classroom. It should be applicable in a variety of context and serve a foundation for further inquiry. Ability to act upon
I realized that usually we do not concentrate on identifying the enduring understanding of a unit while we only identify the small learning objective of each lesson.
Another important note is that Enduring Understanding cannot be an activity like to explain the plot of a story or doing an activity.

Day 5 Thursday 14th of September 2023

I agree that learning goals are the first principles of meaningful learning and effective teaching.

I think that using the command words correctly has a positive impact on learning. example from "Remember" to "create" allows the correct flow from knowledge to evaluation.

I have learned that flexible verbs give more methods in which the learner can demonstrate the knowledge.

 One size never fits all.

A learner can use either oral, written, role playing, visualizing or any way he wants to explain the content.

On the other hand constricted verbs can be used for scaffolding.

Day 6 Friday 15th of September 2023

The learning goal should be directly connected to Enduring Understanding. In other ways the student should be able to answer the question "What are you learning about?"

I loved the AI tool we used today which is "Eduaide.ai" It helps in saving planning time but does not replace an educator It gives the educator more time to give feedback to students rather than planning.
I have learned another important thing today which is that differntiation is meeting the needs of every child, this is not aiming only at struggling students but as well as gifted students.

Differntiation requires customization in education.
But as I reflect on my school and my classmate's school we agreed that some barriers stop schools from having customization in education which are most likely centered around resources, money, complexity, testing and cheaper mass production.

Day 7 Saturday 16th of September 2023

I realized that I want to have more insight on education and change my mindset about what I want my students to learn .
I want the students to explore what is beyond the class and use their knowledge in real life context.
